This is round two of the SSGP. The first round was an endurance race. This round, the Novice and Open classes are each separated into their own heats and mains.

Heats and the main (there's only 1 main) were 5 minutes for Novice class. Open class had 5-minute heats and a 10-minute main for each group.

A quick photo of everyone before the madness starts.
The cars. You see a variety of shells for this race as the Mazda Speed 6, Dodge Stratus and any other shell deemed unrealistic by the organisers are not allowed.
Some cars had more muscle than could fit under their shell.
Entrance was free for participants aged 12 and under.
Eric Chow made a rare appearance as a participant.
His very fast BD5. Many racers are now waiting for the new Lipo-friendly Yokomo car to arrive at his shop.
Pitting next to me was Kraisorn whose table was full of DIY widgets and whazzits. This one is a wooden ride height gauge.
Kraisorn's homemade solder stand, complete with temperature control. He said the motor and mount were part of a gizmo for cleaning motor commutators back when he was racing 23-turn brushed motors.

For the 5-minute heats, ratios were really easy to figure out. Run the biggest pinion you have and the smallest spurs you can get your hands on. The fastest guys were running tiny RW spurs from TP Racing
Norazam's pace-setting ratio.
Zack's a bit extreme. He used a 48-pitch setup to get a 41T pinion, 60T spur, coupled with an internal ratio of 1:2.00 for a final ratio of 1:2.93. He'd wanted to run a 58T spur but the shop had run out of those.

I finished bottom of the bottom (C) main, so that leaves plenty of room for improvement, but overall, a fun day out. The rain held off until right before prize-giving, which is about as good as it gets for Malaysian weather. I'm starting to get the hang of racing again and looking forward to the next round.
